If you have a curious mind and forget the movie, Flashdance, you can invoke the name catchy theme song, What A Feeling. "In my head I still hear Irene Cara belts the words:" Take your passion and make it happen. "When I first artist Keith Zimmerman, I knew I had a person who had made his passion and met. Our meeting was at a recent local Art & Wine Festival, where I saw his work was above all the other works to bedisplayed. I could not get the quality and meticulous detail in his works.
So how do you get the level of opportunity for his creative mind with the marketability of their match at work? It often begins in childhood, as he did with Keith, with an appreciation and interest devoted to things that penetrate through the entire life of a person. After retiring from the non-artistic career, Keith was finally able to realize his dreams through his creations, which had their roots inbasement of his home in Youngwood, Pennsylvania.
In his youth, carousels and merry-go-round fascinated Keith. He also had a love for animals. This paved the way for his carved carousel animals and his extensive study of different types of rides and animals are different from them. However, Keith is not only a passion. At a young age developed a love for the transport. His interest in aviation called for a lot of research, and gradually became aexpert on planes used in World War I and World War II.
Keith displayed artistic talent early. In 10 years had already begun whittling and carving. However, over the years has worked with oil paintings and sculptures of fact. Keith has also made a few cartoons of Dilbert-like.
Glacial winters are severe and in Pennsylvania, Keith could not play outdoors during the colder months, when he grew up. He prepared for the long winter collection of materials duringsummer that would keep him busy in the basement laboratory. He collected different types of wood, including orange crates, boxes of 5 kilos of cheese and, occasionally, a box of cigars.
His delivery of material, have long hours to create models of aircraft. In his hometown at the age of 14 years, became known as "The airplane guy". He also recalled the planes, and studied in detail. Keith continues to aircraft that are historically accurate and made to scale. It helps to have a predilection fordetail.
Keith's career in the field led him to California, where he worked in Long Beach 34 years before retiring. When he retired, he started carving carousel animals. At first he did the pieces that had to be wall mounted. He then started making the animals walk, and planes too detached. For each of his pieces has designed a special stand to keep the art work in perfect balance.
In her study is one of the planes and the Red Baron Fokkerflew in World War alongside the Sopwith Camel. If you think about the scenes of Snoopy from the Peanuts strip, you have the Tri-Wing Fokker and the smallest brown Snoopy would fly.
If you saw the movie, Flyboy, you also think of the bi-wing aircraft against the French German plane. You could see in his study, along with trainers Steerman widely used by U.S. forces in World War II. All in all, he has more than oneexamined several dozen aircraft, carved and painted.
How long will this labor of love to take from start to finish? Keith works in 2 or 3 hour interval and estimated a total of 24 hours each. He said: "Whoever takes 2 4 baseball and football games."
This prolific artist has also expanded her repertoire, including the Pony Express and a larger piece that is the Wells Fargo Stage. All animals, people and the coach are cut by hand andpainted. Again, the detail is great and the colors are brilliant. Keith has many awards for her work including Best of Show Awards.
Few people have the chance to turn their passions and interests into something so meaningful and fun to make and sell. Keith has had a natural talent that has developed and shared with her fans over the years. Fortunately, the artist took his passion and made it happen.
