The collapse of the housing market has affected many of the big cities that were once considered "the ideal place for a well paid job. With many of these jobs are disappearing due to mass layoffs in a sluggish economy, many people are left without ties to the city that has left them stranded. In the January issue of Forbes '09 was named one of the Top 25 of Austin's strongest housing market in America. L 'research was conducted by Forbes in collaboration with Moody's Economy.com, who looked at cities with a metropolitan population of over 500,000 to see which was closest to the recovery of the subprime crisis. "Texas has the best big-state economy in the country right now," said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Economy.com.
