In today's world little boys and little girls have almost interchangeable wardrobes. The emphasis for both genders is on practical clothing that is easy to wear and easy to wash. Little boys and girls are probably not as different as they were once thought to be, but - depending on the child - the core items in a basic boy's wardrobe can usefully be chosen for extra durability.
Practical Style
Every little boy will have a few pairs of jeans. Jeans are the perfect clothes for kids and adults alike. For little boys who live up to the stereotype of getting into scrapes they are the ideal everyday wear. In today's fashions, a few rips and stains sustained during play (or mischief) aren't the end of the world and even add to their fashion status. For any kid who is prone to getting dirty, jeans are the perfect basic trousers because they tend to show the dirt less.
Boys wear baggy long shorts or cargo trousers with lots and lots of pockets for all those odds and ends that little boys traditionally carry with them. A pair of soft track suit pants is always handy for wearing round the house or for after playing sport.
Looking Smart
While most girls have a party dress as part of a basic wardrobe, boys have fewer options when it comes to dressing up. A suit for a little boy is a waste of money because he will grow out of it so quickly - consider hiring if you have a wedding or other formal occasion. Chinos, or any trousers that aren't jeans, and a dress shirt will cover almost any occasion where boys need to look smart.
Weather Wear
With global warming and holes in the ozone layer, sun protective clothing is advisable for boys and girls. Unisex long-sleeved swimsuits that block out UV rays are a basic item recommended for sunny climates. A baseball cap is not only fashionable and fun but will protect your son's skin.
For winter, warmth and protection from the elements are the key considerations. A waterproof parka with hood provides both and a separate raincoat will usually not be necessary. The shops are filled with fun headgear and other winter accessories. Spiderman or other superhero rubber boots will be a hit with most small boys.
Time for Bed
Pajamas signal to children that it's time for bed. As well as being basic items in a child's wardrobe, pajamas offer boys a chance to use clothes for dressing up and having a bit of fun. Bedtime may be happier if it means getting into Superman pajamas!
A basic wardrobe for boys needn't cost a fortune and if well-chosen can also fulfil the requirements of fashion and fun, as well as being functional.
